The Victorian Ombudsman

Mr George Brouwer is the current Victorian Ombudsman. He has over thirty years experience, including at senior executive and chief executive levels, in the federal and state public services, statutory authorities, the private sector and overseas.

His responsibilities have included policy formulation and implementation and strategic development at the highest levels, change management and extensive involvement with Parliament, government departments and instrumentalities, the business sector, community organisations and international organisations.

Mr Brouwer's work in the Commonwealth Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet was under the prime ministerships of Holt, McEwen, McMahon, Gorton, Whitlam and Fraser. In the Victorian Public Sector he worked as Chief Executive of the Premier's Department under Premiers Cain and Kirner and as Chief Executive to the Department of Business and Employment under Premier Kennett.

Master of Laws (ANU)
Bachelor of Laws (Melbourne)
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) (Melbourne)
Graduate of the Ecole Nationale d'Administration (Paris)
Barrister (Non-practising) (Supreme Court, NSW; Supreme Court, ACT; High Court of Australia)
