Ombudsman calls for submissions for investigation into flood planning decisions at Kensington Banks and Rivervue Retirement Village

Date posted:

Following a referral from Parliament, the Victorian Ombudsman Marlo Baragwanath is investigating flood planning decisions for the Kensington Banks and Rivervue Retirement Village developments.

This referral was in response to new Melbourne Water flood modelling of the Maribyrnong catchment which identified risks at both developments.

Some residents are concerned the new modelling and potential planning overlays stemming from them may impact property values and access to insurance.

To inform the investigation, the Ombudsman is seeking submissions from residents of Kensington Banks and Rivervue Retirement Village, and other people with information to share about flood planning decisions for these developments.

“We want to understand how flood planning by Melbourne Water and other government authorities may have affected people in these two communities. We are keen to hear from people at Kensington Banks and Rivervue about their experiences – both positive and negative. This will assist us in identifying the issues and whether systemic improvements are needed,” Ms Baragwanath said.

From 11 November 2024, the Ombudsman is opening an online submission form and a dedicated phone line – (03) 8615 1311 – for people to share their experiences. Submissions are open until Sunday 8 December 2024.

At the end of the investigation, the Ombudsman may make recommendations for improvements based on her findings. The investigation report will be tabled in Parliament and published on the Victorian Ombudsman website.

More information about the investigation process is available on the Victorian Ombudsman website .

Note to media: The Ombudsman will not be doing interviews on this announcement. No further public comment will be made about the investigation at this time.
